Faculty Members at New England College Gave Up a Week’s Salary to Keep Coworkers From Getting Laid Off
New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire needed to cut about $350,000 in expenses to balance their budget, which meant layoffs for faculty and staff members.
–But the school’s 75 faculty members met and came up with an idea to save the jobs.
–If they gave up a week’s salary, that would save the school more than $100,000. The rest of the amount would come from unpaid furloughs and other budget cuts.
–Sixty five of the 75 teachers agreed to the plan, and the school will be able to balance their budget without any layoffs.
